Irish Stage Comeback vs. Canfield to Win Region 9 Championship; Will Rematch with Tri-Valley in State Semi-Finals
STVM and Canfield played for the second time in school history on Friday in the Region 9 Championship game. Canfield got off to a much faster start than the Irish with an opportunistic scoring drive on a short field off of a poorly executed snap on a 4th down punt by the Irish. The Cardinals also connected on a field goal in the first half and shut out the Irish offense. STVM came alive in the second half when Russell Cooper returned the opening second half kickoff for a touchdown. The Irish defense stepped up and shut out the Cardinals in every way in the second half. A 4th quarter touchdown pass from Luke Lindsay to Jalen Ross put the Irish up 13-10 and the defense came up with two big stops to end any chance for a Cardinal comeback.
STVM will face a familiar Tri-Valley Scotties team, a team in which they faced in the opening week of the season. The Irish traveled to Tri-Valley and won in a tough battle 21-13. The game will be at Perry High School in Massillon. Kickoff is at 7:30.

STVM responded with a drive of their own, but missed the extra point. A Griffin interception for a touchdown put Buchtel up 14-6 going into halftime. Mixed with their stout defense, The Irish would make the necessary offensive adjustments and score 15 unanswered points in the second half to win the game 21-14.
