Irish Stage Comeback vs. Canfield to Win Region 9 Championship; Will Rematch with Tri-Valley in State Semi-Finals
STVM and Canfield played for the second time in school history on Friday in the Region 9 Championship game. Canfield got off to a much faster start than the Irish with an opportunistic scoring drive on a short field off of a poorly executed snap on a 4th down punt by the Irish. The Cardinals also connected on a field goal in the first half and shut out the Irish offense. STVM came alive in the second half when Russell Cooper returned the opening second half kickoff for a touchdown. The Irish defense stepped up and shut out the Cardinals in every way in the second half. A 4th quarter touchdown pass from Luke Lindsay to Jalen Ross put the Irish up 13-10 and the defense came up with two big stops to end any chance for a Cardinal comeback.

STVM will face a familiar Tri-Valley Scotties team, a team in which they faced in the opening week of the season. The Irish traveled to Tri-Valley and won in a tough battle 21-13. The game will be at Perry High School in Massillon. Kickoff is at 7:30.

The next drive, the Irish quickly answered to tie the game up at seven. STVM led the game 14-7 at halftime. After the half, the defense stepped up and stuffed the Blue Devils while the offense remained opportunistic, scoring two more in the second half. The final was 28-7.

The Irish went into Rudy Sharkey Stadium looking to improve on their 5-1 record, but were met by an opportunistic Barberton team. The Magics jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead after a score on their first possession and then off of a trick play immediately after an Irish turnover. The Irish closed the gap to 14-7, but Barberton quickly answered. A 21-14 deficit kept the Irish in the game, Barberton proved to be too much on Friday night.

Irish Defeat Mooney in Home Opener to Move to 4-0; Prepares for Holy War
On a perfect Friday evening, the Irish hosted Youngstown Cardinal Mooney in their home opener at Green Street Stadium/John Cistone Field. STVM jumped out to a quick 21-0 lead in the first half, but a blocked field goal that was returned for a touchdown as time expired allowed the Cardinals to stay in the game. Mooney closed the gap with a score in the 3rd, but the Irish answered in the 4th to pull ahead 27-14. A late Mooney touchdown brought the final score to 27-21. Best of luck to the Cardinals the rest of the way!

STVM Holds Off Tough Buchtel Team; Move on to Home Opener vs. Mooney
The Irish went into face a tough Buchtel team on Saturday in what is believed to be the first time these two teams played at Buchtel in the history of the series. In a great football atmosphere on a cool September afternoon, the Griffins threw the first punch when they scored a few plays after recovering an Irish fumble. STVM responded with a drive of their own, but missed the extra point. A Griffin interception for a touchdown put Buchtel up 14-6 going into halftime. Mixed with their stout defense, The Irish would make the necessary offensive adjustments and score 15 unanswered points in the second half to win the game 21-14.

STVM will play at home for the first time this season as they host Youngstown Cardinal Mooney this Friday, September 15. Mooney is coming off of tough losses to two high-ranked Division II and Division III teams: Hoban and Columbus St. Francis DeSales. This will be Mooney's 4th straight game on the road. The Cardinals currently lead the series 23-3.
